Hassan Khan: GESTUS

Exhibition catalogue

The exhibition GESTUS by Egyptian artist, musician, and writer Hassan Khan was on view at Parter Gallery at Cukrarna, from 15 April to 21 September 2025. It was conceived as an assemblage of artworks created during the artist’s one-month residency in Ljubljana.

The exhibition catalogue includes Maks Valenčič’s essay Gestures of the Real, a conversation between the exhibition curator and the artist titled The New Age, and photographic documentation of the exhibition. The texts are accompanied by an extensive selection of materials from the artist’s archive of visual notes, offering additional insight into his creative process.

The catalogue cover features deconstructed fragments of elements from the exhibition, while the publication is enclosed in a transparent PVC sleeve printed with the lyrics of the GESTUS EP. Five different types of paper are used throughout the publication, each corresponding to a specific segment of the project and its distinct visual or conceptual character. The section dedicated to the video THE GREAT ESCAPE (2025) is presented in a special format that references the proportions and visual language of the work.

The catalogue is conceived as a bilingual publication in Slovenian and English.
