Art and the Proposal for a New Human Right
Shona Illingworth: Airspace Tribunal London and Sydney

Roundtable discussion on protecting against threats in airspace and outer space, accompanying Shona Illingworth's exhibition Topologies of Air.

Artist and professor Shona Illingworth, in her work Topologies of Air, examines how airspace and outer space have become zones of threat to humanity. The exhibition, on view in Cukrarna's basement gallery from January 29 to April 6, 2025, addresses pressing issues such as aerial attacks, surveillance, climate change, and the risks of economic and military exploitation of outer space.

Shona Illingworth is also the founder of the Airspace Tribunal, a civil society initiative and international forum that has proposed a new human right. This right seeks to protect individuals from physical and psychological threats associated with airspace and outer space.

A discussion on the proposed new human right and artist’s exhibition will take place on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. in the classroom at Cukrarna Gallery. Panelists will include prof. Shona Illingworth, prof. dr. Luli van der Does, Iva Ramuš Cvetkovič, prof. dr. Renata Salecl, and prof. dr. Vasilka Sancin.

The event is co-organized by the Institute of Criminology at the Faculty of Law, University, Ljubljana.
